NO HOPE is a great lil' scene-specific graffiti zine from the small town of Philadelphia, PA. There does not seem to be any clear crew afilliation, lots of great GOA pictures, but so much more. There is an authentic feel to this one, maybe it's the late-night soft pretzels, action shots from SIRE & RUEN, freight lurking some clean NETWORK panels, some old fan tip tall tags from 1977, and photos documenting a late night memorial piece for ZYRE. Its all copied in crispy black and white on simple paper, just like how zines used to be made. Simple, packs a punch.
The digital collage technique was used to good effect here. The landscapes are composed of surreally stacked buildings, pieces, and netherworlds. Philly textures of half-demolished buildings and a JETSKE bubble-letter in chinatown, DISTORT painting an above-roller, half-hidden by twisting falling fences. No Philly wickets here, just straight letters and variations thereof. NO HOPE brings a view of that other side of the city.
